The beach holiday in Lignano Pineta, not to early to plan it

The program of the Christmas events in Lignano Sabbiadoro had a great success, with thousands of visitors coming from nearby cities.

Not only the Sand Crib, but even the ice rink, the merry-go-round in San Giovanni Bosco park, the New Year’s Eve on the square in city centre and in Terrazza a Mare, the bonfire for the Epiphany on the beach and the many events linked with the different Christmas celebrations involved over 30.000 visitors.

In fact, very popular were concerts and gospel choirs of children and adults, but also the Christmas market organized by parents.

All different associations and also the municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro are very happy with the results obtained during the entire period. Above all, they created such events to attract in the seaside town thousands of people, like a beginning of summer season.

Very important for the beach of Lignano is, in fact, extend the season over the 3 or 4 summer months through the offer of events and shows able to interest the people. In this case, Christmas has been very important and although it has not created a seasonal continuity, however it has proved a very appreciated moment by visitors. Now, from February, starts a series of crowd-pulling events, which are also intended to remind tourist of the beach of Lignano. With Ruotamania and Barcamania, the fish festival, the international dance trophy region Friuli Venezia Giulia, the walk of the sea and Lignano in Fiore starts the summer season 2012.

These events, besides give life to the city even in the cold months, create a continuous appeal of the city in the mind of the visitors, with more chance to book a beach holiday in Lignano.

Even the program of Christmas events executed this function, trying to have faithful visitors. Through the different events, visitors know better the city and see the beach and the hotels in Lignano as destination of its summer holidays.

In Lignano you breathe already the Christmas air.

Christmas lights are almost all in place, at the entrance of the city stands the Christmas tree with light blue lights, as well as in Piazza Fontana and along the streets there are the decorations with coloured lights. Even the open cafés, restaurants and shops offer nice decorations at the windows and Christmas tree, but it is in the city centre of Lignano Sabbiadoro that feverish preparations are under way.

The area in front of Terrazza a Mare is a small building site in the open air: workers and volunteers from different associations, in fact, are at work to offer everyone the Sand Crib and, novelty of this year, the ice rink. On the square, from Thursday 8th December you can ice skating on a wonderful ice rink, a short walk from the loved sand of Lignano. The opening of the ice rink is the 8th of December, day of the Immaculate Conception, perfect moment to present to all children this amusing novelty for their Christmas holidays. The rink is open 8th, 10th and 11th December and then from 17th December to 8th January every day, as the Sand Crib.

The latter is open from Saturday 17th December every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and it will present a beautiful Nativity under a large stand, 20×20 meter, directly on the sand of the beach of Lignano.

Also this year children can have fun with the workshops suggested by the different associations, where they can learn to make pastries, to weave wicker baskets and many other things. Experts of the different fields, but also mothers, fathers and grandparents will help the children in the workshops. All this to keep alive the family spirit of the Christmas.

Even parents will be busy this winter in Lignano with the Christmas market held at Terrazza a Mare.

And not forget the appointments with concerts and with the arrival of Santa Claus on the evening of December 24th, which will distribute gifts to all children of the city.

With so many events, it is obviously that Lignano Sabbiadoro is in ferment to prepare all the necessary so that everyone, residents and visitors, has the chance to enjoy this wonderful period of the year.

Great Sand Nativity in Lignano Sabbiadoro

If you wish to see a very special Christmas crib, you must visit the Great Sand Nativity in Lignano.

On the square in front of Terrazza a Mare, visitors can admire an entire Christmas crib made of sand, with a lot of figures, animals and houses, every day from December the 6th to January the 6th.

In Lignano Sabbiadoro, from several years, artists of the Sand Academy in Rome, make the Nativity scene using the same sand where in the summer season children play and tourists lie in the sun. In about twenty days, under a covered structure in front of Terrazza a Mare, artists work more than 180 cubic meters of sand with different techniques to realize the sculptures of the crib, that has always a different subject.

Every year the Nativity is in a particular scenario, surrounded by the figures that live in this world and by important personalities of the history of Lignano. The same scene of the Nativity is presented each time in a different way: it can be the heart of the scene or it may be part of the scenario, and so be a natural element among the different characters.
The Great Sand Nativity offers children the chance to have fun, discovering sand animals that artists hidden inside the scene.

In the covered structure, pictures and films show the moments of the production of sculptures and also the used techniques, while a little area offers visitors the chance to buy calendars, postcards and bookmarks of the Great Sand Nativity Scene, as a reminder of the Christmas time in Lignano.

And to combat the cold, there is hot chocolate and mulled wine offered by the non-profit association Lignano in Fiore, organizer of the Sand Nativity and many other events throughout the year in the Friulian beach. The aim of this association is to realize projects for poor children in the region and in different countries of the world with the collected offerings.

In addition to the Great San Nativity in city centre, another very important meeting point is the Nativity scene in Lignano Pineta, few meters from the entrance of the seaside resort. For many years there is here an outdoor Nativity, more simple than that of sand, but also beautiful and full of love, because it is made by people who live in that area.

For residents of Lignano Pineta and Riviera, this is the meeting point during the Christmas time to drink some glass of mulled wine or prosecco and to taste special dishes.

Other Christmas cribs are located in the churches of Lignano Sabbiadoro and Pineta and also these are made by volunteers and children of the schools. Children have also the chance to contribute to the realization of an original Nativity scene, the “Crib in motion”. During the Christmas time children can bring a statue of the crib and choose where to place it. In this way, thanks to the continuing contribution of the children, the crib is always “moving”, with new figures.

Despite shops and hotels in Lignano are closed and the beach has no beach umbrellas, the city offers also during the Christmas time the chance to spend very special days, discovering small masterpieces.
